Adam Properties was started in 1988 when Clayton Moore joined James Mitchell to form a company to purchase, own, manage and lease office/warehouse and retail properties in northeast Atlanta for their own account and for the accounts of their investor/partners. Prior to 1988, Clayton Moore had worked full time in the Atlanta real estate business for over 20 years after having graduated from the University of North Carolina with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1965 and from the Emory University School of Law with a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree in 1968. In the year 2000 Jim left the partnership when his family moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee. Since that time Clay has continued to run Adam Properties as it sole owner. As of the year 2012, Clayton Moore will have worked on a full time basis in the Atlanta real estate market for 45 years.
Between 1988 and 2000, Clay purchased several well located buildings in northeast Atlanta both for his own account and for the accounts of his partners. Believing that the most important aspect of any piece of real estate is the location and believing that you “can eat an elephant if you take it one bite at a time”, Clay would consider and analyze some 100 buildings before finally settling on and purchasing a particular property. During this time Clay was very active in and president of the Georgia Chapter of CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member of the National Association of Realtors).
Adam Properties is a company that takes pride in doing jobs well and in treating its tenants and partners well. With Clay having been in business in Atlanta real estate for 45 years, Adam Properties has seen the incredible ups and also the incredible downs of the Atlanta and United States and world economies. When times are good, Adam believes in being thoughtfully aggressive. When times are bad, Adam believes that everyone, including landlords and tenants and investment partners, should pull together to help each other so that as many as possible make it to the other side.
Adam Properties also takes pride in taking good care of its properties and its tenants while prudently looking over the investments of its partners. During the late 1980s and 1990s and early 2000s, Adam focused on all phases of the acquisition and ownership process including property selection, financing, equity raising, management, leasing and accounting.
From around 2002 to the present, Adam has focused more on taking care of its properties as opposed to acquiring more properties. Two daughters of Clay have started doing work for Adam as independent contractors. In 2007 Casey Moore started helping Adam take care of its properties, and in 2011 Roslyn Moore Jaegers started helping Adam. Further confirming the truth of the saying that “the apple does not fall far from the tree”, both daughters bring their impressive and unique talents to the table, and with their help Adam expects to and will maintain its historical occupancy rate of 95% or higher for many years to come.
